Sanexen is seeking a Project Control Officer (PCO) for its Brossard offices.

Job Description

The Project Controller (PCO) plays a key role in the financial governance of projects. This position is responsible for ensuring the financial health of assigned projects through rigorous cost monitoring, budget variance analysis, and performance reporting. Working closely with Project Managers and the Finance team, the Project Controller helps ensure projects are delivered within approved financial parameters.

Cost Control and Monitoring

  • Develop and maintain the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) for each project.
  • Monitor commitments, actual expenditures, and Estimates at Completion (EAC) / Estimates to Complete (ETC).
  • Support the annual budgeting process and periodic forecasting (EAC) exercises.
  • Perform detailed analyses of project costs and process transaction adjustments as required.
  • Manage and monitor project contingencies.
  • Track purchase orders, contracts, and invoices related to assigned projects.

Financial Analysis and Reporting

  • Prepare financial performance reports for the Project Management and Finance teams.
  • Develop financial performance dashboards for project stakeholders.
  • Support the preparation of project closeout financial reports.

Variance Analysis and Cost Management

  • Identify, document, and explain variances between approved budgets and actual project costs.
  • Conduct root cause analyses of cost overruns.
  • Recommend corrective actions and collaborate with project teams to implement them.
  • Monitor corrective actions and assess their impact on the project's financial performance.

Change Management

  • Prepare change requests in support of the Project Management Office (PMO).
  • Evaluate the financial impact of change requests and change orders.
  • Maintain the project change log and ensure budgets are updated accordingly.
  • Verify that approved changes are accurately reflected in the ERP project management system.

Governance, Compliance, and Continuous Improvement

  • Ensure cost control practices comply with internal policies and contractual requirements.
  • Participate in external project audits.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of project control processes, templates, and tools.
  • Train and support project team members on cost control tools and best practices.

Sought Profile

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Engineering, Project Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in project controls, financial controls, or a similar role.
  • Experience working in large-scale project environments such as construction, engineering, infrastructure, information technology, or related industries.
  • Proficiency with project management software such as Microsoft Project, Primavera P6, or equivalent.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel and the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to develop clear and visually effective dashboards.
  • Strong analytical skills and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex financial information clearly.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary stakeholders.
  • Proactive, solution-oriented approach.

Assets

  • Professional designation such as CPA, P.Eng., PMP, CCP, or EVP.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics 365.
  • Experience with Power BI.
