Sanexen is seeking a Health and Safety Specialist – Field Operations to support its various projects across Quebec and the rest of Canada.
Job Description
The Health and Safety Specialist – Field Operations maintains a regular presence at Sanexen’s project sites to promote a strong health and safety culture. Acting as a key resource, he or she supports field teams, ensures compliance with health and safety standards, and builds trusted relationships with workers. The candidate actively contributes to incident prevention, performance monitoring, and the continuous improvement of health and safety practices, while ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory requirements. Within a project-based environment operating across Qubec and Canada, including remote regions, this role requires an active field presence and the ability to directly influence worksite practices.
Main responsibilities
- Support field teams by acting as a key health and safety resource;
- Promote a strong health and safety culture across active job sites;
- Participate in and serve as a driving force in investigations following incidents;
- Coordinate and facilitate meetings with internal and external partners.;
- Actively contribute to the implementation and follow-up of health and safety projects;
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to projects and analyze results;
- Work closely with the Health and Safety team, leveraging existing programs, tools, and processes to promote the prevention of workplace injuries and vehicle-related incidents;
- Participate in the development and implementation of tools and programs aimed at eliminating risks associated with Sanexen’s activities;
- Ensure compliance with applicable health and safety regulations and support their effective management;
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry best practices to effectively respond to the needs of internal and external clients.
Qualifications required
- Degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Sciences, or another related discipline;
- ASP Construction certification;
- Minimum of 5 years of health and safety experience in a construction or field-based environment;
- Demonstrated experience working in the field and supporting operational teams;
- Experience in incident management, investigations, and the implementation of corrective actions;
- Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation and regulations (e.g., CNESST requirements and the Safety Code for the Construction Industry);
- Ability to ensure rigorous regulatory compliance monitoring and follow-up;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to positively influence behaviours;
- Proven ability to quickly build trusted relationships with workers, supervisors, and managers;
- Strong field leadership, with a proactive and solutions-oriented approach;
- Ability to handle sensitive situations and incident-related matters with professionalism and tact;
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly to various project sites;
- Strong autonomy, organizational skills, attention to detail, and professional rigor.

- Strong communication skills in French are required; bilingualism (French and English) is considered an asset.
