The Revegetation Division uses various techniques to remediate degraded sites. The goal of these techniques is to transform sterile tailings into a substrate capable of supporting sustainable ecosystems, as opposed to relying on traditional covering techniques. These techniques, used to restore more than thirty sites in the Province of Quebec, have successfully withstood the test of time. 
The Revegetation Division works in close collaboration with Sanexen’s other divisions to offer an integrated approach and provide solutions adapted to each client’s specific needs.

Restoration: a unique technique

Each site to be restored is unique and requires a specific approach. A site visit takes place in order to precisely define the issue. In addition, the client’s needs and expectations are identified during an initial meeting.
Following this meeting, a restoration plan is developed by carrying out an in-depth study of the site.

Processes: a specific approach

Our team of professionals has developed several processes, all successfully used, including:

Establish a vegetation cover on rocky surfaces

  • Appropriate for creating a self-sufficient vegetation cover on non acid-producing tailings.

 

Establish a vegetation cover on blasted rock

  •  Appropriate for creating a sustainable and self-sufficient vegetation cover on blasted rock without material capping.

 

Establish an allelopathic vegetation cover on acid-producing mine tailings

  • Appropriate for creating a sustainable and self-sufficient vegetation cover on tailings covered by multilayer covers or CCBE. Allelopathic vegetation with shallow root systems preserves the cover’s capillary barrier.

 

Design and construction of passive systems for the treatment of contaminated mining effluents

  • System implemented for the treatment of water from tailing exfiltration dikes  and/or final effluent of polishing CND or AMD .

  • Erosion Control and Shoreline Stabilization

Vegetation barriers are used to effectively bank watercourses and reduce erosion.

 

  • Hydroseeding

 A planting process in which a slurry containing seeds, mulch, fertilizer and a bonding agent is sprayed onto the ground. This technique is effective and economical for difficult or sloped sites, and tailored to your needs.

 

  • Decontamination Work

Our team removes contaminated soils and transports them to approved sites, in compliance with regulations governing this type of work.

 

  • Civil Engineering Work

Civil engineering work is often required as part of revegetation projects. We have the necessary know-how to build access roads, trenches and dikes.
