Water main located in the right-of-way at Madison Avenue, New York Water Main rehabilitation

The City of New York recently conducted a study of trenchless water main rehabilitation technologies. One factor that prompted the City to conduct this study was the density of private and public infrastructures as well as the lack of underground space throughout the City of New York, which could cause health and safety risks, as well as delays in work completion.

The Aqua-Pipe® technology was therefore selected following an assessment of existing methods. This technology uses a structural liner, the design and manufacture of which incorporate mechanical properties that exceed all specifications and meet drinking water requirements.

Sanexen therefore completed the rehabilitation of a section of water main located in the right-of-way at Madison Avenue and 60th Street – a busy location where street closures to both residents and merchants was out of the question. The original cast iron water main had been installed in 1881.
